What is the Historical Commission?
Our mission and goals
The Mennonite Brethren Historical Commission is a funded ministry owned by the US Conference and Canadian Conference of Mennonite Brethren churches. The Commission works with a network of four Mennonite Brethren archival centers.
Since its formation in 1969, the Commission has helped coordinate the collection, preservation, and interpretation of Mennonite Brethren archival records: congregational meeting minutes, conference proceedings, personal papers, periodicals, and photographs.
The Commission . . .
-
fosters historical understanding and appreciation of the Mennonite Brethren Church in Canada, the US, and globally;
-
encourages professional and lay historians in the research and writing of histories and memoirs;
-
develops and supports archival collection, preservation, and accessibility of resources for the global MB church;
-
celebrates the diverse voices and contributions that form and inform MB theology, history, and future development;
-
acknowledges God from whom all blessings and histories flow.
